Brigham Historic Inn and Suites Bed and Breakfast in Brigham City Utah

Brigham City is the county seat of Box Elder County in the state of Utah.  Its population is estimated at 17,000 and is currently the headquarters of ATK Thiokol, the company that created the solid rocket boosters for the Space Shuttle.

Brigham City was first explored and settled by Mormon Pioneer William Davis but was named after the president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
During World War II the federal government created a general hospital to treat wounded soldiers; the hospital brought an economic boom to the area and after the war the buildings were used as Intermountain Indian schools for Native Americans.  Proof of this is found by the large white “I” on the city’s southeast mountains.

The matching “B” on the mountain stands for the city’s high school: Box Elder High.
Also notable is that the company, Smith’s Food and Drug was started in Brigham City.  Other local manufacturers include steel fabricators Nucor/Vulcraft, Intertape Polymer-shrink wrap, OEA-airbag initiators, Malt-O-Meal, and as of late: La-Z-boy Utah furniture manufacturer.
Brigham City’s most exciting time is during the first week of September when local residents and out-of-state visitors alike celebrate their annual Peach Days with parades, car shows, craft booths, contests, and food.

Peach Days has been observed every year since 1904 thanks to the English immigrant, William Wrighton; he bought 100 peach stones from Salt Lake City, planted them in 1855 and turned peaches into an integral part of the local economy.

Today, agriculture continues to be an important part of Box Elder County’s economy and culture; 1/3 of Utah’s “dry land” wheat is grown here along with alfalfa, corn, tomatoes, potatoes, and onions.  The dairy, cattle, and sheep industries also contribute substantially.
